ARTIST STATEMENT
As long as I can remember, I have been fascinated by our environment and the various surroundings in which we live. Different locals and scenery have always held my interest.
Appreciating the beauty of nature and translating that beauty into an artistic representation is what my landscape paintings are about. To depict the sunlight that sparkles on the surface of water or is reflected through the leaves of trees casting a shadow on the ground, is what I try to achieve in my paintings.
In my compositions, color plays an important part in expressing a feeling or mood. The palette may be vivid giving a vibrant feel to the landscape, or it might be subdued to express a quiet and tranquil mood.
The goal is to give the viewer something that is esthetically pleasing to look at and hopefully create a response within that viewer that says “boy, would I love to be there”. My painting exploration continues to expand and now includes three dimensional compositions, using ceramics as a form of canvas.
My ceramic art are all individual pieces of art. They start life as a round or flat piece of clay and are carefully hand-built into shapes of vases, teapots, bowls and containers, which ultimately end up as highly decorative pieces of ceramic art. Color and design are very important to me.
I start with a blank surface and then hand paint different designs using many different colors. The more vivid, shocking and illuminating the better. I want my work to cheer people up, make them smile and continually discover new things about the ceramic art piece.
